Holy jumping crocodiles!
And we are talking the salt water type.
The Adelaide River has over 5000 crocodiles, and they are
frightful. Travelling at 40 kmh on top
of the water, able to hear a boat from 2 km, a heartbeat from 1 km, and can
stay under water for up to four hours, they are the ultimate predator. Our guide told us that should there be boat
issues, take the bright orange life jackets and throw them the other way, as
the crocs also have excellent sight and like bright colours. The crocs can propel themselves so that most
of their body is out of the water. The
largest croc seen by the guide was over 6 metres in length. The last big guy we saw of the day, at over
100 years of age, was over 4 metres long.
After the tour, we spent a nice afternoon in the pool as it is not
recommended to swim in the rivers.
Wonder why?
Meet Agra, over 100 years old and huge. |
