Tam Coc

Saturday morning we said farewell to our wonderful hotel staff in Hanoi and headed for Tam Coc.  Everyone is feeling a bit better, but we are all still feeling a little cautious on our eating patterns.  Our tour of Tam Coc has us visit a temple, which is interesting in that the gods are given gifts of coke and wagon wheels.  We then our taken on a boat ride down the river.  The boat drivers use their feet to row, and are quite efficient at this.  One of the rowers is rowing while playing a game on her IPod, what a missed photo op.  After a spectacular ride through the mountains, and under the mountains through three long caves, we head out for a bike ride through the farm land.  The scenery is truly stunning, and is what we pictured Vietnam as looking like.  The farmers are harvesting their rice at the time, and once in they spread the rice out on the road and paved lots to dry.  Rice everywhere.  The bike ride back is a little slower as the chain on my creaky old bike keeps falling off.  The bike guy was not interested in hearing about it back at the base.  We are happy to avoid the bus ride back to Hanoi with everyone else as we stay in Tam Coc for the night.  The boys are craving home style food, and we find a restaurant that serves a kind of hamburger, and a very good pizza.  We are feeling better all the time, but still cautious.  Glad for airconditioning in our room as it is hot and humid all the time.  I keep thinking of Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam giving the weather.  Hot, damn hot, and tomorrow, hot...!
