Head into downtown Bangkok via the water taxi. The taxi is cheap and nice provided you avoid
people trying to get you on the much more expensive tourist boat. Getting off at the Royal Palace, we are
amazed at the number of mourners. The
king died on October 13 and Thailand observes one year of mourning. Talking to a tourist volunteer, he said that
this is the traffic everyday, but immediately after the king had died, there
would have been 100 000 people a day coming in.
Said it was crazy, but he was a good man. After wondering Khoasan Road, the boys go for
a Thai kick boxing lesson with Sol Vorapin.
A great 90 minute workout. The
little guy was the one trainers son, and no one in his grade would want to
anger him. Levi thought he might be able
to take on the cute Thai girl, until he saw her in the ring. Fear was instilled into all of us. Ans and Evert had joined us at the gym, and
after that we went out for one last dinner together. We have been travelling with them since Luang
Prabang, about three weeks worth the travel.
They have been great travel mates and we will all miss them. The boys are already looking forward to the
prospect of them visiting us in Canada next summer. Poor Luke still is feverish, and this is now
two weeks worth. On the way back to our
hostel, we stop at the Saint Louis Hospital which is route and a mile from our
hostel. After a positive check in, the
doctor blew it. Told Cindy that he wants
to keep Luke in for three days to monitor the fever, and would like to test for
many items, two of which are typhoid and HIV.
He could not get the ear thing working, so we were out of there. Although I was thinking of mentioning that
the other two boys might be feverish as well, and five days of monitoring would
give a better read. Next time.
